The other day when i wanted to make my tofu, i mentioned "fish lips" as a topping. i was wondering where to get some so i asked this super idiot from work... notice the pronounciations are different...

Idiot : 哪里找得到?可以找到的啊?
Idiot : nă lĭ zhăo de dào? kĕ yĭ zhăo dào de a?

PrinCess : 哎呀!哪里买得到啦傻瓜。。。
PrinCess : āi yā! nă lĭ măi de dào la shă guā…

Idiot : 买什么?

PrinCess : 鱼唇啦!
PrinCess : yú chún la!

Idiot : 你知道愚蠢得意识是笨蛋吗?
Idiot : nĭ zhī dào yú chŭn de yì shí shì bèn dàn ma?

PrinCess : 算了吧!你就是愚蠢!我找到了!
PrinCess : suàn le ba! nĭ jiù shì yú chŭn! wŏ zhăo dào le!

hahaha!!!
so anyway, some might wonder what are fish lips... basically, they are tasteless, crunchy & found only in chinese restaurants. My former boss once told my mum that fish lips are fish lips... and mummy believed him!

I googled fishlips & i got this

"For once and all, lets set the record straight. The word 'fish mouth' or 'fish lip' (in Chinese character '魚唇') as seen in a Chinese restaurant’s menu, be it sautéed or braised, means not the mouth or lip of fish you come to think they're. Don't take the titles in a Chinese eatery for granted. The name fish mouth/lip is coined to refer to quite the opposite, in a euphemistic way - the skin of big fish, especially to skin around the tail fin of shark - usually considered not classy enough to be used in the shark fin soup.
But you're not alone if you mistake the fish skin by its title: many a people in Hong Kong who can read Chinese characters in the perfect tend to think likewise and inquire the waiter out of surprise (and sheer ignorance) where the "fish mouths" are when the dish arrives."

anyway, these are what fish lips basically look like... although the ones they serve in Long Feng are less translucent & more to the whiter side...
